About

The Default Library exists because the feed is winning by default, and it shouldn’t. Every piece here is an attempt to give you something better to reach for — short enough to finish, deep enough to matter.

Why it exists

Scrolling is the path of least resistance: infinite, frictionless, engineered. Reading something short and real takes almost the same amount of time and leaves you with something. The Default Library is built to be the easier choice — a single good button to press instead of another swipe.

Who writes it

The library is written by its founder, working with Claude, across ~26 subject sections — physics, philosophy, money, history, the body, thinking, and more — plus a growing Spanish-language collection and a capstone course, The Default Course.

How it’s made

Every piece follows the same house style: one big idea, a hook in the first three lines, concrete examples over lecture, and an honest source list for anyone who wants to go deeper. The library is free on the web, and it also ships inside Lektio, the reading app it was built for.

The sister project

The Default Library shares a spirit with everydayisayear.org — both are small, deliberate antidotes to how most of the internet spends your attention.
